I shot this Florida Screech Owl last night at the in-laws. It was in a tree in their front yard and remained there through several flash shots. The only camera I had with me was the Canon 110 I keep in the car console for just such occasions. Again, my No.1 equipment axiom: the best camera for the job is the one you have with you when the picture needs taking. Surprisingly, it allowed me to shoot several flash shots from a distance of about 2 feet. The Screech is the smallest of Florida owls. This one was about 7 – 8″ tall.
A Bald Eagle soaring high over our home in the middle of a very populated Pinellas County, Florida. Now that I know to look for it, I’ve spotted it a few more times hunting at a lake in a wooded area close by our house. What a wonderful surprise to see such a majestic animal in an urban setting. All I had on my T4i at the time was the 18-135.
